Brett Barnes (Carthage College 2007 NCAA DIII)- Head DB coach
Brett is a 2002 graduate of Mt. Carmel High School. While at Mt. Carmel, Brett earned a total of 9
varsity letters in football, track, volleyball, boxing, and rugby. Despite Brett’s accomplishments
and accolades in his other sports, football was where Brett dominated the most. Brett was a
starter on defense and named MVP (special teams) of the IHSA 2000 State Championship team
Division 7A.
Brett’s speed and athleticism enabled him to be a 4-year starter in both football and track. In
football Brett earned the reputation as the best shut down corner in the CCIW Conference
earning 1st team all-conference, and 2nd team all-North region (2004). Brett started at corner on
the CCIW Championship team whose defense was ranked #1 in the country. Brett also had one
of the fastest 40-yard dash times in NCAA D III history (4.32).
After graduating with a degree in Exercise Sports Science, Brett went on to start at defensive
back for two years for the semi-pro football team, The Racine Raiders. After dominating the semi-
pro arena, he went on to start for two seasons with the Chicago Slaughter (Arena 2). After
playing years of professional football, Brett realized his passion was in coaching. Brett is
currently the defensive back coach for the Milwaukee Bone Crushers, an Arena 1 football club.
Brett’s experience and success on the field makes him one of the best defensive back coaches in
the Midwest.
